Lansdowne Avenue: The Gateway to Carroll Park and Overbrook Communities
Once a sustainable and thriving commercial corridor - Lansdowne Avenue between the 57th and 67th Streets; was once home to a bakery, fish market, flower and gift shop, shoe repair shop, sneaker and shoe store, locksmith, supermarket, children clothing store, women’s clothing store, and other entrepreneurs. We have come to understand that a commercial corridor such as this one is a vital artery to the entire surrounding community. Therefore, the health of this community is integrally connected to the health of this commercial corridor. B.O.O.S.T (Building on Opportunity for Sound Training) has taken on the enormous challenge of revitalization and the redevelopment of Lansdowne Avenue: The Gateway to Carroll Park and Overbrook Communities. B.O.O.S.T Economic Empowerment & Development Projects The revitalization and the redevelopment of Lansdowne Avenue Corridor require the acquisition of abandon properties, vacant lots, Job readiness, community advocacy and community partnerships. In partnership with the City of Philadelphia Department of Commerce, Wynnfield-Overbrook Revitalization Corporation, Career Link Philadelphia, West Philadelphia Financial Services Institute, Philadelphia Film Society – Movies on the Block, Lansdowne Avenue and Carroll Park Prevention Coalition; we will aim to restore retail stores, restaurants, and affordable housing on the Lansdowne Avenue corridor and within our geographical community. B.O.O.S.T’s Projects require developing venues and avenues in which optimism is fostered through economic empowerment and community wealth building. Generating wealth in our community will cause our community to flourish.
