Educational Scholarship
BOOST will be awarding two candidates $500 each via the Robert Lee Sills Jr. Memorial Educational Fund.

Robert Lee Sills Jr. was a man who embraced life in Philadelphia, loved to engage with people, and understood the importance of education and community building.
This grant is designed to embody his core principles by supporting Philadelphia residents pursuing higher education beyond high school.
Eligibility Criteria

Residency: ​Applicants must be residents of Philadelphia.

Age Range: Applicants must be between 17 and 24 years old at the time of application.

Educational Pursuit: The funds are intended for students entering accredited institutions of higher learning such as colleges, universities, or vocational schools.
Application Requirements

Proof of Residency: Applicants need to provide documentation proving they live in Philadelphia, such as a utility bill, lease agreement, or similar official document.

Proof of Age: A government-issued ID, birth certificate, or similar document to verify age.

Intention Confirmation: Copy of application confirming intention to attend an accredited higher education institution.

Personal Statement: A written statement outlining the applicant’s educational goals, career aspirations, and how receiving the fund would impact their ability to pursue their education.

Community Service: A written statement and photos illustrating actions as a community activist. Examples can include but are not limited to, voter registration drives, violence prevention, support for seniors and youth, etc..

Academic Records: Transcripts or other records demonstrating academic performance and achievements.

Enrollment Confirmation: Proof of acceptance or enrollment at an accredited higher education institution.
Awardee Requirements

Proof of Acceptance: Awardees will be responsible to provide proof of acceptance at an accredited institution of higher learning

Award Ceremony: Awardees will be responsible to attend an award ceremony luncheon

Letters of Recommendation: Providing letters from teachers, mentors, or community leaders.

Interview: Participating in an interview, if required
Fund Usage
The funds must be used specifically for education-related expenses. These can include:

Tuition Fees: Costs for enrolling in and attending classes.

Books and Supplies: Textbooks, lab equipment, and other necessary educational materials.

Technology: Computers, software, or other tech needed for coursework.

Transportation: Costs related to commuting to and from the educational institution, if applicable.

Accommodation: On-campus housing or off-campus living expenses directly related to attending the institution.
Approval Process:

Submission: Applications must be submitted by 5pm 11-1-24. Decisions will be socialized by January 3, 2025. Ensure all required documents and forms are included.

Review: Applications are reviewed based on eligibility, completeness, and the alignment of the applicant’s educational goals with the fund’s mission.

Selection: Finalists may be required to participate in an interview or provide additional information.

Awarding: Recipients are notified and provided with instructions on how to access and use the funds.

Applicants should check for any additional guidelines or specific requirements provided by the fund’s administering organization.

Only applications completed in their entirety and submitted by deadline will be considered for the award. NO EXCEPTIONS.
